The Regional Safety Manager provides leadership for operations teams and nurtures a strong culture of safety.  He/she will build and maintain professional relationships with all Miller Pipeline associates, implement company safety strategies and manage the performance and professional development of the regional safety staff.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Technical expert and consultant
  • Manage staff performance and facilitate professional development through training, mentoring and coaching.
  • Implement programs so that management staff and employees internalize worksite safety practices, fire prevention, material handling/lifting, equipment use and the proper handling of hazardous chemicals.
  • Implement safety strategies and best practices; ensure that customer and regulatory requirements are being met.
  • Conduct thorough root cause investigations; document and collaborate with operations team to develop reasonable/actionable corrective measures.  Above all, communicate results!
  • Conduct inspections to identify worksite- and facility-related hazards, and then determine corrective or preventive measures.
  • Coordinate fleet safety to comply with DOT regulations.  Monitor safety driving telematics daily and work with the management team(s) so that we can continually ensure issues are corrected.
  • Communicate safety/quality observations with superintendents weekly to ensure they are all acted upon.
  • Help generate materials for monthly safety meetings.  Tailor the monthly meeting agenda to the needs and trends of each location.  Monitor and coach regional managers in leading effective safety meetings.
  • Ensure new employees complete all driver safety requirements before starting work in the field.
  • Track and trend safety/quality metrics for each area within the region, and then document and provide data to superintendents monthly.
  • Monitor all damage prevention-related recognition and disciplinary actions.  Ensure proper documentation and communication.


Required Qualifications:

  • Travel occasionally, including some overnight.
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health/safety or a related field from an accredited university with 2+ years construction experience. Similarly, an associate’s degree with  combined experience and education will be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations and construction and/or industrial safety requirements.
  • Excellent communication (oral, written and analytical) to share data with all levels of the organization and with customers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with operations teams and customers.
  • Teach staff to conduct training sessions that engage the audience.
  • Able to use MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access and Outlook) effectively and to track and analyze critical data.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis and investigation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years construction experience in a leadership role; preferably gas pipeline construction.
  • CHST, ASP, CSP, or OSHA 501 certified.
  • DOT, National Safety Council or Smith System Driving Instructor certified.
  • Confined Space Entry and Rescue certified.
  • CPR Instructor certified.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English.
